Shellac Red Polish
A red coloured button polish, medium cut. Its main use was as a coating for gesso work to be covered in gold leaf, giving the leaf an antiqued appearance. Its other uses are to simulate Japanese lacquer work as a background colour.

A refined chemically modified polish allowing limited exterior use.
